With the fixture cancellation last week, Rochdale traveled to St.Helens having not played for two weeks. On top of this Bjorne Brauns had been called up to the first team, a move he has been knocking on the door of for some weeks. This left captain Karl Wynn with a reshuffle of his pack, but he did have the experience of Tim Liptrot available to him.
St. Helens are currently sitting in second place in the division and it wasn’t before long that this table topping side started to show why. Using the ball well and at speed, they took control of the game and by half time Rochdale had it all to do trailing by 3-0.
Despite a spirited performance in the second half, chances were sparse for the Rochdale strikers and the game ended 6-0 to St. Helens.
This game marked the half way point of the season, with Rochdale now having played all the other teams, except City of Manchester which was postponed. So next weeks see them play host to Didsbury Northern. Again a team who have been in the top 4 all season. Rochdale will be keen to go in to the Christmas break with a win and avenge the 6-1 defeat they suffered in the opening game.
Captain Karl Wynn “Today was another tough day at the office, but we have a game in hand and have a good idea how to adjust our set up for each team. The second half of the season should see us come strong and achieve a top 6 finish.”
The Atticus man of the Match went to Andy Meanock.
