Rochdale flew out of the traps and raced to a 3 goal lead. Completely overwhelming Formby and scoring 3 great team goals. After this Rochdale became slack with Formby pulling all 3 goals back and drawing level, all be it with a little luck, a slip from Jonny Herreran allowed them to attack 2 on 1, a back post tap in and a wicked deflection from a short corner brought the score back to 3-3.

Rochdale had Mark Vynne carded for verbal abuse and lost Richard Borrit and Mark Eden who were both sent off for heavy tackles on the Formby midfield. This did seem to galvanise Rochdale who upped the gears again and went on to score a further 3 goals to Formby’s 1 lwinning the match 6-4.

Barry Gumbly was unplayable and times and caused the Formby defence problems all day, completing his hat-trick, Rochdale’s other goal scorers were Michael Waddicor and two for Richard Borrit,  coupled with the work rate of James Shepherd it proved too much for Formby.

Captain Michael Waddicor ” At times we played fantastic today and Barry Gumbley’s hat-trick display won him the Oulder Hill Sports Complex Man of the Match.”
